Everything You Need to Know When Buying a TentBox

If you’re thinking about buying a TentBox, there are some things you need to consider before making your purchase. This article will help you navigate the world of TentBoxes to buy one that perfectly satisfies your needs.

What is a TentBox?

A TentBox is a unique and innovative new way to go camping. The closest thing to having your own apartment on the top of your car. TentBox is a brand that specialises in high-quality roof tents that they like to call ‘tentboxes’.

It is the new comfortable, convenient, cost-effective way to enjoy the great outdoors without spending a fortune on a campervan or spend forever setting up your tent!

TentBoxes are easy to set up and take down and come in various sizes and styles to suit your outdoor hobby. Whether you’re a solo camper or part of a small family, a TentBox is an excellent option for anyone looking for an alternative to traditional camping.

The Three Different Models of the TentBox Roof Tent

When it comes to camping, like a pro, you will need a roof tent. But which one should you buy? The three models of the TentBox roof tents are the Lite, Cargo, and Classic. Here’s a look at each type of roof tent model and what to consider when buying one.

TentBox Lite

The Lite is an entry-level tent, perfect for all cars of almost any size and families with children. It’s lightweight and the smallest model when closed (L140 x W120 x H25), but it can sleep up to 3 people once opened.

The Lite is the most affordable model at £1,250. Coming in two different colours (black or orange) and once on the roof of your vehicle, it has a short set-up time of 5 minutes with its fold-out opening system. It also has a large skylight, perfect for camping under the stars!

TentBox Classic

The Classic is the original TentBox. It is designed for an all-around adventure for up to two people. It’s great for festivals, markets, or public events, as it can be set up in just 60 seconds with its gas-assisted opening system. You can even store your bedding and ladder inside. For those winter adventures, extra insulation is also available. If you are looking for a roof tent with lots of internal storage, this would be the best TentBox. It is famous for being the range’s most convenient and easy-to-use model. Available in two different colours (grey or white), it retails at £2,250. Although it may seem steep initially, its hard-wearing material, crack-resistant body and aerodynamic shape make it an excellent bargain. Especially compared to a camper!

Cargo

The Cargo is the perfect roof tent for adventure seekers and explorers. Cargo is the most robust model. Set up in 30 seconds with a gas-assisted system; the TentBox Cargo can withstand all weather conditions and sleep up to 2 people. Add optional customisable things on top using the add-on accessory rail for different attachments. You can access the Cargo from the sides or rear; it has lots of internal height and is super slim.

How Does It Work?

STEP 1- Check Your Roof Limit:

You will need to ensure that your car can safely support the weight of the roof tent and the contents of your tent. When checking your roof limit, there are two loads to consider: the static and the dynamic load.

Your vehicle’s static roof load limit is at least five times the dynamic roof load limit quoted by your vehicle’s manufacturer. A dynamic load refers to the maximum weight allowed whilst your vehicle moves. A static load is when your vehicle is stationary. Whenever roof bar or vehicle manufacturers quote a roof load limit, they always refer to the dynamic limit.

When considering the added weight of people inside the roof tent, you should use the static load limit of your vehicle. You can work this out by multiplying the dynamic load (listed in your vehicle handbook) by 5.

If the TentBox you buy is less than your vehicle roof load limit, you’re good to go. The same applies to your crossbar limit. See the different models and their weights below;

Once you’ve checked your roof limit, you can choose your model and cross bars. It would be best to decide based on your roof limit and the features you are looking for in your roof tent.

STEP 2- Find Some Cross Bars for Your Car:

You will now need to find some cross bars for your car. Cross bars secure the roof tent to the top of your vehicle. You can find these at any auto centre in the UK, such as Halfords (which also offers a fitting service).

STEP 3- Choose your Tentbox

Once you have the cross bars and have discovered your roof limit, the next thing you need is a TentBox. There are a few different choices available, so it’s up to you which one you choose.

STEP 4- Get the TentBox onto the Cross Bars

Now that you have the TentBox and the cross bars, it’s time to attach it. You can do so by following these straightforward tutorials here. Alternatively, you can purchase an additional installation service for a trained fitter to install your roof tent. Whichever method you choose, ensure everything is secure before driving around town.

Once the TentBox is installed, you’re ready to hit the road and enjoy the great outdoors!

How to Choose the Most Suitable Model for You?

When purchasing a tentbox, it is essential to consider your needs and preferences. Various models and sizes are available, so deciding which is right for you can be challenging.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure to choose the right size for your needs. They come in various sizes, so selecting one that comfortably accommodates you and your gear is essential.
  • Consider your budget.
  • Check your vehicle’s roof load.
  • Do you require to attach any attachments to your roof tent?
  • How many people does it need to sleep?

With these factors in mind, you’ll find the perfect roof tent for your next camping adventure!

The TentBox community is a good enough reason to purchase one of these roof tents. They are an inclusive, fun, supportive group of people who own or use a TentBox.
